Rifugio Vallaccia, Val di Fassa, Italy

Hiking with the right company is one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of nature and to celebrate this year’s “Ferragosto” – A holiday here in Italy, celebrated on the 15th of august,  where families and friends gather together for a picnic. With the pandemic, celebrating it like all these years is a big problem, for me, it is one of these moments when the saying “Who finds a true friend, finds a treasure” gets it’s affirmation!

We took a service van from the parking near a restaurant called “Ristorante La Soldanella” in Pozza di Fassa to “Malga Monzoni” and from there a relatively easy hike to the alpine refuge “Rifugio Vallaccia” which is located at 2275 meters above sea level. Oh! the first part of the path was a little hard (a 400 mt. dislevel) but the view and the silence is what really makes this walk one of the most beautiful that I have ever done  in the Dolomites.

and the “Stella alpina” – Leontopodium alpinum (Edelweiss) – a rare and very beautiful flower,  symbol of the Alps.

I walked more than a hundred mountain trails…

I looked for you hoping to fulfill a dream

I saw rare and beautiful flowers along the way

But in my mind that dream remained

One day, after a long time of searching

I thought I’ll never find you…

I have searched and dreamed of you

Suddenly, in the midst of some alpine flora, on a rock…you were there.

I have found beauty and peace.
